Important Reminders

Spelling words are part of nightly homework. There will be a spelling test every Friday unless otherwise noted. You will receive a spelling contract tonight that is part of weekly homework and your child's homework grade (a copy of the spelling contract is on this blog in case you lose it). Words should be recorded into the agenda book each Monday and the list will be checked every Tuesday in class.

Reporters start this week. A letter is being sent home with instructions on what is required when your child is the reporter for the week (a copy of this letter is on this blog if you lose it).

Reporters for this week:
Hannah - Life
Jeremiah - Poetry
Kamille - News
Taalib - Fun
Kia - Weather
Colin - Vocabulary

Please remember that student grades are posted on Gradelink, and should be checked regularly to see your child's progress. Even though a Friday folder is sent home with all graded work, it is important for you to see the overall grades.

Reporters

September 21, 2009

Dear Second Grade,

Beginning this week we will start reporters! Every Monday, six students will be picked to give a report on Friday. They include the Fun Reporter, Weather Reporter, Life Reporter, News Reporter, Poetry Reporter, and Vocabulary Reporter. Each reporter will report on their given topic.

Fun Reporter- gives reviews on movies, books, restaurants, museums, games, theme parks, etc. or may share up to three appropriate jokes

Weather Reporter- tells us the forecast for the weekend as well as the air quality and phase of the moon

Life Reporter- reports on any hobbies they may have. They can share photos, pictures they’ve drawn, stories they’ve written, trophies they’ve won, or anything else that has to do with their life

News Reporter- tells us what’s happening in the news. Some examples include new art exhibits at various museums, community festivals coming up, sport reports, etc. Parents, please make sure that the topics are age appropriate.

Poetry Reporter- reads us a poem they like or one that they wrote.

Vocabulary Reporter- tries to find a word that they think the class won’t know and shares it with us. The word may be in a different language. Students will be expected to say the word, give us 3 clues for guessing its definition, and use it in a sentence.

If you or your children have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. However, the goal is to keep it fun and simple. Thank you and happy reporting!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Callanen & Mrs. Sederstrom

Important note on workbooks!

September 1, 2009

Dear Second Grade,

We apologize for the confusion with the workbooks yesterday! The math workbook will be used most nights for homework but will not need to be brought to school everyday. Please tear out the nightly homework, complete it, and return it in the homework folder each day. We will, however, be working in the reading practice book in class and at home. Therefore, the reading workbook will need to come back and forth each day. You do not need to tear out the pages for the reading workbook, just complete the pages and bring it back attached to the book. Please call or email if you have any questions 310-670-1678 x212 or 2ndgradesjs@gmail.com.

Thank you,
Mrs. Callanen and Mrs. Sederstrom
